Alexander Grischuk is a Russian chess grandmaster and one of the most successful chess players in modern Russia. He was born in 1983 in Moscow and started taking part in various chess-related competitions when he was 9. In the late 1990s, Grischuk won a few international championships and obtained the title of a FIDE master. The 2000s started for him with a very good performance at the World Chess Championship. In 2005 FIDE World Cup he became the 5th and improved his positions as a leader of the Russian Team in the upcoming Chess Olympiads, for which he has managed to win two team golds and a number of team silvers and bronzes. He is also considered to be one of the best masters in blitz chess. His highest rating was in spring 2014 when Grischuk became the 2nd in the world. Currently, he is rated the 9th by FIDE.
