Anish Giri is a chess grandmaster of Nepali origin, who was born and grew up in Russia, in the city of St. Petersburg where he received his first training as a young chess player. He managed to win the city tournament for junior chess players under 14, and in 2008 he received the grandmaster title becoming the youngest in the history to do so. In 2008 his family moved to the Netherlands where Anish got a chance to receive training from the best European specialists. In 2009 he became the chess champion of the country and later on Giri won this title three more times. He represented the Dutch National Team in all Chess Olympiads since 2010. In early 2016, when Giri was 21 years old, his FIDE rating made him No 3 chess player in the world. Currently, his rating is Number 5.
