Sir Anthony Hopkins is an outstanding British and American actor, filmmaker, stage actor, and social activist. He was born in 1937 in a middle-class Welsh family, and he started demonstrating his acting talents since his primary school times when he gained popularity for imitating the conduct of his teachers. He was interested in playing piano and politics, and when he was 16 he entered the Royal College of Music and Drama, which he finished in 1957 and continued his acting education in the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. In the late 1960s, after years of theater stage performances, Hopkins started receiving his first cinema roles in such movies as "The Lion in Winter", "Hamlet", "Uncle Vanya", and, finally - TV series based on L. Tolstoy's "War and Peace", which brought Hopkins his first Academy Award. He continued developing his acting career with the portrayals of poor and liberal young men in such movies as "All Creatures Great and Small", "A Bridge Too Far", "Magic", "The Elephant Man", "The Good Father", "The Dawning", etc. By the early 1990s, Hopkins has got some experience in portraying various psychos and maniacs, which resulted in his brilliant performance in the movies "Silence of the Lambs" and "Hannibal". A truly amazing portrayal of cannibalistic serial killer brought the second Academy Award to Hopkins. Hopkins has residences in Britain and California. He lives with his third wife mainly in the US and spends time playing piano and taking part in various charity programs. In 1987 he received the title of a Knight given by Queen Elizabeth, in order to appreciate his services for arts and the popularization of British culture worldwide. Hopkins has a daughter who is a musician and a songwriter.
