Born in 1965 in the UK, she spent her childhood in quite a poor family, alongside her younger sister. Joanne started feeling that writing was her calling in her early teen ages and began writing plenty of short stories, mainly fantasy and fairy tales. After finishing high school, Joanne studied French Language and Literature at the University of Exeter. For some time she worked in a research department of the Amnesty International and continued writing.
