Michael David Sorkin was a highly respected American construction designer, architect, and urban critic, as well as the head of Michael Sorkin Studio and author of many books who tragically lost his life as a result of COVID-19 complications during the 2019-2020 coronavirus pandemic. Born in 1948 in Washington DC, he studied architecture in Chicago and later on in the Massachusetts University of Technology. Sorkin started his career as a critic and a writer for The Village Voice, as well as taking part in plenty of projects on urban design. A great part of his career he dedicated to teaching and educating students and as a lecturer, he traveled in many countries of the world. He was known and very highly appreciated as an author who wrote about 20 books on architecture and urbanization of big cities like Twenty Minutes in Manhattan which became a best-seller. Michael Sorkin died in March 2020 after being tested positive for COVID-19 during the 2019-2020 coronavirus pandemic, at the age of 71.
