One of the most talented and successful Hollywood actors of our times, Tom Hanks is famous both for his comedy and drama movie performances. He has two Academy Awards, seven Emmy Awards, and four Golden Globe Awards. Hanks was born in 1956 in California and lived quite a hard childhood since after the divorce of his parents he and his elder brother were given under the jurisdiction of another family. Since his childhood, he has demonstrated amazing acting skills and was very much appreciated by his surrounding for his incredible sense of humor. His cinema debut took place in 1980 with the movie "He Knows You are Alone", and a TV project, "Mazes and Monsters", but the first successful role he played was in the movie Splash (1984) where he played a romantic guy who fell in love with a mermaid. The decade was closed by two other interesting roles, "Big and Turner and Hootch", where Hanks starred with a dog. In the 1990s, a few other movies like "Apollo 13", "Sleepless in Seattle", "You've Got Mail", and finally, "The Green Mile" where Hanks played one of his greatest roles of Paul Edgecomb, a prison watcher. This movie has brought two Academy Awards to Hanks and has made him a national hero. This success was followed by the roles in such movies as "Road to Perdition", "Cast Away", "Polar Express", "Captain Phillips", etc. Hanks is a very avid social, environmental, and political activist, he is trying himself for directing and writing. He was married twice and has four children.
